Abstract

The cacti are a family with a large number of genera and species, however, their diversity is threatened with extinction, due to pathogens that can compromise their morphology and physiology. The objective of the research was to verify the occurrence of etiological agents of diseases in cacti in the Brejo paraibano region. The isolated pathogens were incubated in Petri dishes containing medium BDA (potato-dextrose-agar) at a temperature of 25 ºC and, under a photoperiod of 12 hours of light. After seven days of incubation, the mycelia and conidia structures of the isolates were examined. For the diagnosis and etiology of the disease causal agent, the morphological structures were compared with the descriptions in the literature. The occurrence of fungi, Scytalidium lignicola, Colletotrichum sp., Rhizoctonia sp., Fusarium sp. e Nigrospora sp on cladodes of Hylocereus setaceus. The diseases squamous rot, fusarium rot and anthracnose are responsible for the main damages to this genus in the Brejo paraibano region.
