Survey of changes in the gastrointestinal tract in dogs submitted to necropsy at the Presidente Antônio Carlos University, in Uberlândia-MG

Abstract

The digestive system has the function of making the digestion and absorption of nutrients providing energy for growth and cell renewal. This system consists of the following segments: mouth, pharynx, esophagus, stomach, small intestine, large intestine and anal canal. The Dogs are exposed to various agents (bacteria, viruses, parasites and foreign bodies) that can lead to various gastrointestinal disorders causing pathological changes in the gastrointestinal tract. The aim of this work is to identify the main pathologies found in the stomach and intestine of dogs through the necropsy examination. Therefore, 83 necropsy files completed in practical classes of Animal Pathology of the Faculty Presidente Antônio Carlos of Uberlândia were evaluated from February 2014 until April 2016 and during the study, 70 cases were presented gastrointestinal alterations. At the end, the main alterations that showed highlight were: thickened and hyperemic mucosa, presence of hemorrhage, presence of mucus and mucosal erosions.
