Effect of the use bentazon herbicide on the productivity of corn and dry mass of crotalaria intercropped

Abstract

The objective of this work was to evaluate the selectivity of the herbicide bentazon for crotalaria intercropped with corn and the productivity of corn and dry mass of crotalaria grown in intercropping. The design used was randomized blocks (DBC), with 4 replicates and 5 treatments, as follows: Corn without herbicide application; Maize + Crotalaria spectabilis without herbicide application; Maize + Crotalaria spectabilis with application of bentazon herbicide at a dose of 0.5 L ha-1; Maize + Crotalaria spectabilis with application of bentazon herbicide at a dose of 1 L ha-1; Maize + Crotalaria spectabilis with application of bentazon herbicide at a dose of 1.5 L ha-1. Corn sowing was simultaneous to crotalaria, with previous harrowing of the soil. The hybrid used was the CD 3410 PW®, from the company Coodetec, industrially treated with the insecticide Poncho® from DuPont Pioneer (600g / l) while for the crotalaria common seeds were used without treatment. According to the analysis of variance, there was no significant difference (P <0.05) for the production of dry crotalaria as a function of the herbicide doses applied; as well as for the variables: plant height, stem diameter, insertion height of the first ear, ear diameter, ear length, mass of 1000 grains. The herbicide bentazon in the three tested dosages was selective for Crotalaria spectabilis, not harming its development or its dry mass production. Monoculture corn produced around 1.5 tonnes ha-1 more than intercropped with Crotalaria spectabilis.
