Mental health of nursing professionals in contemporary times

Abstract

The mental health of nursing professionals is of paramount importance when it comes to quality work and effective service provision in the work environment. The objective of the present study was to demonstrate the factors associated with work that can affect the mental health of nursing professionals, which can interfere with work, care, relationships with the team and their lives. The work adopted an exploratory descriptive research methodology, based on a narrative bibliographic review. The literature review covered works published in the last 10 years, consulting sources from books and articles found in scientific databases. The inclusion criteria were based on the relevance of the exposed content. The themes of concepts about mental health, work-related mental health, nursing, factors that lead nursing professionals to become ill and Burnout syndrome were exposed. Recognizing the role of the nursing professional and the factors that affect mental health, such as work overload, low wages, lack of equipment, high responsibility, dissatisfaction, lack of recognition and relationship conflicts, care and appreciation actions are suggested of these professionals.
